Hello Pongsters!

I’m writing to you today from my home. We’ve temporarily moved out of our office space (1871 at the Merchandise Mart Plaza) to conserve capital. In any case, Graham, Matt and I are the only ones that work together in person, the rest of the team is remote; so now they just come over to my place.

Game Night

Matt has organized a whole bunch of game nights for this community, and we invite you to join them and play with us on our Discord server.

Vlogs

Since the last update we’ve put out two new vlogs on our YouTube channel (please subscribe to keep up to date!). Here’s the latest one:

I’m curious: do you guys like these vlogs? What do you think of them? Please reply and let us know!

Firmware

Graham switched gears and has begun putting together more Firmware direction. He is designing the syntax that will be used in our final version of Light Pong Python and sharing with the rest of the Firmware team. Occasionally he’ll ask for opinions on the Light Pong Discord; if you’re interested in participating, join the Discord server.

Our firmware developers, Aqib and Ahsan are adapting previously developed C-modules to match the new syntax specifications that Graham has provided. Other than this, specifically Aqib is working on re-implementing our Light Strip driver and Ahsan is implementing our Audio system, so that you can play back audio, and get super high framerates!

Circuit Design

As the global chip shortage continues, we’re now working on a new circuit iteration to accommodate new features and avoid chips that have run out during chip shortage.

As a matter of fact, we’re looking for a freelance PCB designer to help with that. If that’s you or someone you know, reach out to us! Additionally, we’re looking for a front-end developer too. Get in touch with me!

Companion App

Our UX Designer, Don has been hard at work designing the companion app, and it looks beautiful! He has worked through a lot of mid-fidelity prototypes and is now focusing on designing the high-fidelity screen prototypes, establishing the Light Pong UI Kit, and establishing our Light Pong UI Kit. We’re excited about the look and feel of the app — the interface is clean and contemporary embellished with fluorescent colors and retro elements. This is perhaps the most exciting part of app development because we are making decisions about what the app will actually look and feel like, all while leaving room for proper visual exploration and functionality that’s under development. It’s the most experimental part of the visual design process.

Our web developers, Giuseppe & Raj are focusing on the backend implementation of our app for now — specifically, they’re working on the User service.

International Crowdfunding

A strategy that I’ve found interesting is to use international crowdfunding platforms to raise more funds in the crowdfunding phase of the business. I’ve been looking into that quiet a bit and hope to have some more information on that by the next update!

That’s all for now folks. As always, please reply and let me know your thoughts on things. I want to hear from you!
